There is some fantastic prize money on offer at Musselburgh this afternoon for the start of the £600,000 Sky Bet Sunday Series, a series comprising three fixtures worth £200,000 each, and we will be hoping to get a slice of the pie with Red Missile, who contests the final race on the card, the Stayers Handicap over 1m6f. As expected, given the money on offer, this is a stronger race than the one he won over course and distance last month, but conditions will suit and he remains fairly handicapped following a 2 lb rise in the weights.
We will also be represented by a handful of runners at Perth’s two-day fixture next week, although this is generally our quietest time of the year in terms of racing action with the jumps taking a two-week break from next Sunday.
The work is still be going on behind the scenes, however, as we continue to build up the fitness of those horses who have recently returned from their summer breaks. The majority of the string are now back doing some form of exercise, and with the first of the core winter team slated to make their reappearances in around four or five weeks time, we have plenty to keep ourselves occupied.
