Despite the reams of paperwork required, Scu and I journeyed to France last week for the Arqana Summer sale. We were interested in the collection of two and three year old stores and were delighted to buy two good looking and long striding geldings with top black type staying pedigrees.
Pictured is IDEM a three year old by Rail Link (Sire of Jim Goldies Northumberland Plate winning Nicholas T) and out of a half sister to Aintree legend Vieux Lion Rouge. He is strong and has plenty of character and will be an ideal young stayer for bumpers, hurdles and ultimately fences. We were delighted to buy him for 26,000 euros and he is for sale. See his pedigree here
Our two year old store purchase BOIS GUILLBERT is a scopey chestnut by Ivanhowe out of an unraced Kapgarde full sister to a black type chaser from the top class family of Milord Thomas who won the Grand Steeple de Paris, and Martinstar winner of the Grand Steeple di Milano. He was my pick of the two year olds due to his movement and attitude and he could be exceptional value in the long term. His first season sire is by the well regarded Soldier Hollow, and we will hear more of his offspring in time. He was bought for 25,000 euros and is for sale. See his pedigree here
Back in Scotland our winter horses have come in from their holidays and have started our seven week pre training program. There are some weighty horses going out to work and we will be sure to slim them down before starting anything too strenuous. It is an exciting time of the year and we have plenty of hopes and dreams for the team.
Paul and Steven left today for Newmarket where the July Sales start tomorrow. It is an open sale with plenty of horses to avoid but also some nice types who could progress either on the flat or hurdling and we have a couple on a long list. Please contact us to share the list or if you are interested in either French horse.
